The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body to the Pastor by which the Christian faithful of a parish, together with those who have pastoral authority in the parish (namely the Pastor), "give their help in fostering pastoral activity". The Council's work is to be informed and inspired by the vision of the Church, exemplified in the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The clear distinction between policy formation (the proper work of the Pastoral Council) and the administration (the proper work of the pastor and parish staff) should be maintained. The members meet quarterly and one member of the council is a member of the Finance Council.

The purpose of the Council is to assist the Pastor in the preparation and review of the parish budget and all other financial reports. Like the Parish Pastoral Council, the Finance Council is a consultative body to the Pastor. The Council must be knowledgeable of the mission and goals established by the Parish Pastoral Council for each fiscal year. The Council will then develop ongoing financial plans and budgets to respond to the needs identified by the Pastoral Council. The President of the Council is appointed by the Bishop with the remaining members chosen by the Pastor and approved by the Bishop. |
