For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Baptism is the Church's way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God. The Rite of Baptism for Children emphasizes the importance of faithfulness on the part of parents when it says to parents: In asking to have your children baptized, "you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the faith." That word practice is crucial; it calls for Christian modeling on the part of parents.
To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office at (815)385-0025 or e-mail our liturgical director, Carleen Murphy at cmurphy@stpatrickmchenry.org
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of most months immediately following the 11 a.m. Mass (Exceptions: Christmas/Easter if they fall on those Sundays).
Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism before your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is required for the parents (Godparents are welcome to attend). This class is offered on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 9 a.m. Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.
When making the important choice of Godparents, keep in mind: (1) Each child may have one male and one female sponsor (2) At least one of the sponsors must be a practicing confirmed Catholic (at least 16 years of age).
If your child is over the age of 7 or you are an adult looking to be baptised, please refer to the information regarding RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
